The Resource Management Act (RMA) came into force in New Zealand in 1991 and was a very significant piece of legislation in regard to Land use.
The RMA replaced or amended 69 laws relating to town planning and resource management. It is New Zealand’s main piece of environmental legislation and promotes the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources of land, air and water.
